About Jeff and his passion to share
Who is Jeff?
I’m just a guy who has been living the ‘American Dream’. I went to college and received a business degree, landed a good job with a large company, and then built my own business. I was doing very well according to American standards.
Then, my eyes were opened to the world during a trip to Africa. My wife and I went to Kenya to work at an orphanage in 2009. The time spent there caused both of us to take a closer look at how we were living in our own country. We began to realize the opportunities we have to impact others. Maybe there is a bigger purpose for us being blessed by living in America. We decided to start making changes in our lives that would free us up to do something different in the future.
When I started The Ugly Truth About Money blog, it was originally to point a finger at the big banks and our government for the mismanagement of funds and to make Americans more aware of how money works. However, the more I studied the Bible and the teachings of Jesus I began to see the idea of money in a whole new light.
One of the areas that I have spent much time researching since we returned is on materialism and the effects it has on how we live our lives. I started to realize how blind I was to my own wasteful spending. Materialism and craving after more possessions is a hidden trap that can grab hold of each of us at any time.
What if God made America the wealthiest nation in the world for a reason greater than just more indulgences for ourselves? I think He did.
Jeff’s message:
Like many of you, I am bothered by the direction mankind is headed. We are better than this!
I am concerned. Not only for the many who are lost in their ways, but also, for Christians in America and around the world who have been lead down a path of deception. You see, the more I study the Bible and hear what Jesus commanded His followers to do, the more I feel that many Christians have become lukewarm. Meaning, we may go to church, or are involved in church, and some even lead small groups, and there are others who have made ministry their full time profession. But, we live like the rest of society. It is extremely difficult to tell who is a Christian.
We are worshiping an ‘American’ Jesus that we have twisted to fit our ‘American’ lives!
